PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Hello ISES Members,
Our 2008-2009 ISES year is off to a great start. We have had an extremely successful first program at Tommy Bahamas and our second at the MGM Mirage Events’ new studio promises to be fun as well as educational.
Thanks to all of you who have volunteered for our committees thus far. You are working to help make our chapter successful.
To any of you who have not yet chosen a committee to participate in, I encourage you to become involved and take charge of your own success within the chapter.
We as a board are working hard to make the Las Vegas chapter stand out both for our educational and networking opportunities as well as providing charitable assistance within the community.
Please look for opportunities coming up to show the town that we call home what the events industry can do to help her.
Thanks again for your friendship and support!
Sincerely,
Jill Latucca
President ISES Las Vegas 2008-2009

ISES LAS VEGAS HAS A MEETING IN PARADISE!
ISES Las Vegas held its first 2008-09 chapter meeting at Tommy Bahama’s in Town Square on September 17th. The laid back Caribbean feel of paradise was the perfect setting for the ISES Las Vegas Board to connect with members and friends.
A networking activity encouraged members and guests to mingle and put their thinking caps on! Once you found your networking partner, you had to answer a CSEP question. The winning team received a nice prize for getting an A+ in networking.
The program started with President Jill Lattuca encouraging members to get involved in ISES Las Vegas by volunteering on a committee. Several board members described the committees and recruited interested members to serve. If you would like to participate on a committee, see the list of committees and their contact information below. Sign up! We would love to have your help on an upcoming project, education program, or future communications.

ISES LAS VEGAS HAS A MEETING AT...
A CATHOUSE?
Our past president Gary Bordman wanted to throw an exciting party for his last program and the Installation of the new 2008-2009 Board of Directors. He booked Cathouse at the Luxor and what a fun night it was.
The attendance was great. And I personally really enjoyed the entertainment of SnakeBabe and her Venom girls. Ok, I am a bit biased there...
As you entered Cathouse you walked past a girl lying and a bed of live scorpions. You signed in with Thom and came face to face with a giant python held by ISES’s very own web mistress and snake charmer Maria.
The food was specially prepared for ISES by award winning Chef Kerry Simon and it was delicious. Everyone raved.
The venue itself is decorated unlike any place we have been to. A chic hybrid of a relaxed, sexy restaurant and European ultra lounge feel. Getting to see the club is just one of the many benefits of membership at ISES. Several ISES members that had no idea this elegant venue existed. So you see gang, you have to attend the meetings or you may just miss the club that your clients are looking for.
Cathouse gave us another treat by having their “Coquette Dancers” take the stage and do their thing. All eyes were on these sinfully gorgeous dancers in lingerie. Thanks to Catch The Moment who supplied us with a green screen photo booth that got everyone all crazy. I even jumped on stage to hammer a nail up my nose.
ISES LAS VEGAS HAS A HEART!
Your local Las Vegas ISES Board has decided it’s time for our Chapter to start giving back to our local community! While we have been very heavily involved with the American Heart Association’s annual Ball for the past several years… and will continue to do so. We also realize that there are plenty of needy people right in our own back yards! So, you are going to start hearing about opportunities to join us to assisting the less fortunate right here in Las Vegas. We are going to be volunteering at Soup-Kitchens, homeless shelters and the like. If you have any local charities or organizations that are near and dear to your hearts… OR if you would like our support with a program or event you are working on, please don’t hesitate to ask! We welcome any suggestions and/or recommendations. Stay tuned for more to come!

Rachel Nelson and Heather Willden, CSEP were the first recipients of the Dr. Kathy Nelson Scholarship receiving $1,000 each towards their education. Also, Angela Roberts CMP, CSEP received $800 as the first ISESLV recipient of the ISESLV Educational Grant. Sponsors of the American Heart Gala received awards and the past years Board of Directors were recognized before the new 2008-2009 Board was introduced and sworn in.
So to sum it up, if you ever wanted to pet a giant tarantula or see Cathouse at the Luxor or sample Chef Simons specialty menu then this was the party to go to.

A helpful hint to increase your bottom line on entertainment.
As I sit in at my desk just a few feet away from my Hippie…Er, I mean husband I realize that even though he can’t remember to turn of a light when he leaves the room he is a bit of a genius in other ways. Sales. I hear him on the phone every day doing what many of you do but if you know Steve you know it’s going to have a strange twist. But this one twist of his that I think may be useful to increasing your bottom line when booking strolling entertainment.
Let’s say your client asks you for a strolling juggler.
CSEP CERTIFICATION
The CSEP designation is awarded by the International Special Events Society (ISES) and its Certification Committee. ISES is the only international umbrella organization representing professionals in all disciplines of the special events industry. Education and a commitment to professionalism are cornerstones of ISES.

Established in 1993, the CSEP program was developed to increase the recognition of professional growth and identify professionals who have demonstrated proficiency in the all components of the special events industry
The next application due date is October 20, 2008 for the next exam window of January 15-30, 2009. If that is too soon, no worries, the next application due date after that is January 16, 2009 for the exam window April 15-30, 2009.
To learn more about CSEP certification, eligibility requirements, and how it can benefit you, please visit www.ises.com/CSEP

Fine, jugglers price in at about $125.00 and hour. You go to your list and book your favorite juggler and make a few dollars. Well, my Steven asks one question that many times increases that one juggler into greater profits. Its one simple question. Are you ready…?
‘Sure, I can help you with that, did you want a standard juggler or something unique’
Many times “Standard’ will work just fine, but this question will peak their curiosity and of course the client asks next, “What is the difference?”
Well, a standard juggler will work your event juggling balls and clubs. A unique juggler will juggle bowling balls and razor sharp axes.
See what the power of suggestion can do?? It’s not unlike when some of you in the Décor field ask ‘do you want paper napkins or cloth napkins.’ Many times they will go for the mid-high end because it will make them look better and well you have just made more money off your strolling performer because a unique juggler will go for an hourly of $175.00 - $250.00.
Same can go for a magician, a standard magician will go table to table and tell you what card you picked where a unique magician will pick your pocket or make live scorpions appear before your eyes.
Well, this has been very beneficial for us. It does not work every time but when it does is sure is nice to increase the $$$ for the same amount of time as a standard booking. Try it sometime. In these economic times extra money for the same amount of paperwork is nice.
Hmmm, now if I could only get him to pick up his socks and throw them in the hamper.
Hugs and Hissessss,
Maria Gara
